An underrated tree which produces very hard wood, which makes exceptional firewood, and also reported to be good for bows and walking sticks that do not warp. Most commonly known as “ironwood” this specie grows slowly, about 1-1.5 inches in diameter every ten years, more or less. Does well in open woodlands with partial sunlight. Makes a good yard tree, it does not leave a mess and will never get massive.
